Sony’s announcement of the 3.21 Playstation update caused uproar among PS3 users due to the fact the patch removes the capability to run a second OS – such as linux- on the Playstation “Fat” (The feature is all ready removed on newer models of the console.).
Despite this being a marketed feature when the console was released, Sony now consider this feature a security risk and have given users the option of choosing not to upgrade and keep ability of the second OS but not being able to use the console’s internet features or play games and blu-rays requiring 3.21 firmware or more.
In an ironic twist, hacker Geohot claims that he has created a patch called 3.21OO which allows users to keep the multiple OS facilities but also be able to continue using the console as normal. He claims the patch can “be installed without having to open up your PS3, just by restoring a custom generated PUP file, but only from 3.15 or previous.” And to “use the proxy hack to play online with 3.15” No news as to when the patch will be released but check back and we’ll keep you updated.

Hi,
I allowed my 14-month old PS3 to update to 3.21 and it died. It will not respond to the Univ. remote. It freezes on a text screen that indicates that the update will remove other OSs, but I can’t navigate from that.
I see all kinds of problems on the web, but have not read of a fix.
Thank you,
Norm
