Developed by Ninja Theory, the beautiful Heavenly Sword was one of the first games to be released on the Playstation 3 and was the consoles leading game for many months. However, Ninja Theory today announced that they failed to make a profit on Heavenly Sword. Ninja Theory’s co-founder Tameem Antoniades said “It’s difficult. Heavenly Sword came out pretty early on the PS3, and we sold, I think, a million and a half copies, and that’s still not enough as an independent studio to break even,” he explained. “The publisher potentially breaks even at that point, but the developers don’t.”

Antoniades seems to blame Heavenly Sword being unprofitable due to the game only being released on one console. Ninja Theory plan to release two games this year, and Antoniades said “I mean over half the market or more has Xbox 360s – why limit yourself to one platform?”.
