The rumours have been flowing around the internet for months now, and the “iPad” was finally unveiled by Apple yesterday. The iPad boasts a huge 9.7″  LED backlit Multi-Touch Screen. The device weighs a mere 1.5 pounds and is a ridiculous 0.5 inches thin, and these statistics will make it extremely easy to carry the iPad around with you.

From launch, the iPad will be able to run 140,000 apps currently available on the Appstore, including EVERY iPod and iPod Touch game released. The iPad can run the apps at their original resolution size or upscale them and fill the whole screen. Playing games such as N.O.V.A and Need For Speed: Shift on a portable 9.7″ screen sounds extremely tempting! Portable Facebook and browsing of the internet on a gorgeous looking 9.7″ device? Wow! Apps are currently being specially designed for the iPad itself, and I can’t wait to see what ideas they have conjured up.

The iPad will be available with just Wifi and be sold for $499 for 16GB, $599 for 32GB or $699 for 64GB. A slightly more expensive version of the device will be available which includes both Wifi AND 3G internet and will be sold for the following prices: $629 for 16GB, $729 for 32GB and $829 for the 64GB version.

So for the best iPad available, you’ll have to splash out a hefty $829 which when converted comes out to an extortionate £510! The iPad looks awesome, but for someone who already has a laptop, it might be hard to justify the high price tag.
